In a project for a commercial vehicle exhaust system, GRG undertook a comprehensive refurbishment of weld cells over 16 months. This initiative included refurbishing trunnions, conducting thorough robot checks, and applying powder coating to enhance durability. With a cycle time of just 300 seconds, our automated projection stud welding process and offline weld simulation streamlined production across 13 weld cells organized into four MIG welding modules. The project also featured a final assembly module that incorporated automated assembly, torquing, leak testing, and quality checks. By combining reused and new equipment and providing an off-tool prototyping solution, GRG successfully executed fixture run-offs in parallel with weld cell refurbishment, maximizing efficiency and minimizing downtime.
